Hidden Gems, Summer Vacations and Western Mass Treasures….
Hey friends and fans.
So all this summer weather has got you thinking about a nice cool pond deep in the woods as the perfect remedy for those hot and humid days that are right around the corner? Heading north on 93, hmm… good luck with that. Headed to Wellfleet for oysters and hang at Cahoon Hollow beach.
Gawd do I love Rt 6, yeah – it’s a breeze – if you are driving at 3am!!
Well folks, time to think about the really beautiful mountains and hollows of Western Massachusetts.
Driving there is a breeze – get on Root 2 – and go west !!
Start early and stop at a great diner in Gardner, (yes Gardner…) the Blue Moon diner is old school, cranking out awesome goodness (like the cream cheese and roast beef omelet OMG…) – wanna see more – www.bluemoondinergardnerma.com Gardner also has some hip used clothing and second hand stores – a good quick stop over on your way to the Berkshires –
Ok – so we are not talking the upscale Tanglewood set here, we are talking roots and Americana. Funky places, cool little towns that could use a few of your hard earned vacation dollars to keep them alive out there. Root 2 – where it gets down to a 2 lane road… “The Mohawk Trail” hell, yeah!
Shelburne Falls… we are performing at the farmers market in Shelburne Falls multiple times this summer and fall, and we are excited to no end!
It’s a little left hand turn off of Root 2, and when the Bridge of Flowers is in full dress, it’s is wonderful and a must see. There is a great little restaurant right over the bridge that sits on the river. Adela & I were dining there last year, and I spied a fisher cat on the opposite bank of the Deerfield river as it flows through town. Last years’ early floods really did a job on the town, but they are back in business, and deserve your patronage. Here is a link to the town’s site with a wealth of information. www.shelburnefalls.com – to see the devastation cause by the 2011 hurricane Irene – have a look at this - http://youtu.be/p47txwmuwCY -
OK – so most of this stuff – you can find yourself – but what about those GEM spots I promised, spots that I have found deep in the woods, and off the beaten tracks to let only my friends know about – a perfect place for a picnic, a place for secret stealth camping, a place where you can sneak up on a bear den and actually hear their breath….. yes, those kinds of places.
Adela & Jude will be playing our unique brand of old school Americana at Sally O’Brien’s on April 26th.
in what we like to call “Fresh Pickins” – we have a couple outstanding new bands we’ll be performing with:
The Recession Boys, and the debut of “Coal Rock Mountain Top” – a fun and fine night of fresh new music!
So, as promised: cool off the beaten path – I am not going to give you a ton of information. I want you to go and investigate yourself – spend a weekend in western mass – discovering it. Tannery Falls – the highest waterfall in Massachusetts – located near Savoy Mountain State Park in Florida, Ma – Great camping place, awesome deep woods waterfall – pretty tough to get to – def a 4 wheeler, but hiking is easy!
Monroe State Forest…. 273 acres of Old Growth Forests in Mass. That’s pretty cool. google. go!
Not that into sleeping on the cold hard ground in bear country? Ok – well how about an old haunted Inn? Well, our friends out at www.charlemontinn.com have just the thing. Room 23, that’s were Adela & Jude drew inspiration for our haunting tune “Eliza Beth”… She was a 14 year old girl, and spent her time in room 23 where she eventually died of consumption in 1845. The song is featured on our upcoming debut recording “In Loving Memory” which will be releasing on November 2nd, 2012
Well folks, that’s a lot of words to digest. We hope to see you at a show, let’s share some fun.
Raise & Praise!!
Adela & Jude
